Force of Nature Cleaner Review-The Pros and Cons

Sharing is caring!

I am excited to share my honest Force of Nature cleaner review as a disinfectant and all-in-one multi-purpose cleaner

I have to admit, I was a little bit leary when I heard about a safe and non-toxic disinfectant. Growing up believing that bleach was the end-all-be-all for disinfecting and cleaning all the dirty stuff. When I realized how toxic bleach can really be, I switched to all non-toxic cleaners but never thought I could find a disinfectant recognized by the EPA and not full of harmful chemicals. I was also shocked when I found out this product was a hospital-grade disinfectant as well. If you have ever been in a hospital or worked in a hospital, you know those wipes that are outside the rooms will wipe out any and all germs as hospitals are breeding grounds for all kinds of nasty bugs and viruses. The downfall is, that those wipes are extremely harsh and not made for our health in mind.

Finding a non-toxic cleaner let alone disinfectant can be hard. There are a lot of great non-toxic cleaners out there that I have tried, including vinegar and lemon, but none amount to an EPA-certified disinfectant, and after the past few years we’ve had with a particular virus, I am all for it.

What is Force of Nature?

The short answer? Force of Nature is electrolyzed water. The long answer?  Force of Nature is an EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) approved disinfectant that also meets OSHA(Occupational Safety and Health Administration)  standards for blood-borne pathogens. To put it into simple terms, you can use this product to clean practically anything. Using an electrical current, made of salt, water, and vinegar, Force of Nature is a powerhouse non-toxic option for disinfecting and cleaning.

It truly is a Force of Nature!

Does Force of Nature Cleaner actually work?

A common question is, “How can simple ingredients like salt, water, and vinegar be as effective as bleach?” Single-handedly these ingredients alone cannot outperform a chemical like bleach, but the process of electrolyzed water can.

Per the NCBI(National Center for Biotechnology Information),

“Electrolyzed water (EW) is a new type of cleaning and disinfecting agent obtained by means of electrolysis with a dilute sodium chloride solution. It has low cost and harm to the human body and is also friendly to the environment.”

To put it in layman’s terms for all of us not so keen on chemistry: Force of Nature uses a chemical reaction using water, electricity, and the necessary ingredients (water and vinegar) to create a chemical solution. This chemical solution turns into two new chemical ingredients: hypochlorous acid and sodium hydroxide.

Hypochlorous acid:

I’m about to blow your mind with some cool facts: hypochlorous acid, or HOCL is an antimicrobial that is a part of our human body. It is used as a defense system made by our white blood cells to protect us from infections and invading pathogens and bacteria. It’s basically our body’s defense against bacteria and it helps to regenerate the tissue as well. HOCL is used in many skin care products now as an option for a healthier version of products like Neosporin.

What an awesome ingredient to have in a cleaner/disinfectant right? HCOL is 99.9% effective at killing germs and is as effective as bleach.

Sodium Hydroxide

A detergent that dissolves grease, grime, and soap scum. This element can be used in anything from toothpaste to lotions to conventional cleaners. The difference is all in the dosage as it can be very corrosive when used in higher concentrations. In conventional cleaners, the percentage of sodium hydroxide concentration is between 1-5% and has the potential to be very harmful. Force of Nature creates a solution concentration of just .0000003%  very gentle yet powerful.

The right concentration is perfectly made by a delicate balance of the vinegar used. The vinegar is used to lower the acidity of the solution. Each capsule that comes with the kit has the perfect amount of each substance as the EPA requires this to ensure the right concentration. Even a slight imbalance of HOCL can result in the solution turning into bleach.

What comes in the kit?

The Force of Nature starter kit comes with a reusable spray bottle, a countertop unit that mixes the solution, a charger, and 50 capsules. This kit should last for an entire year!

Why Does it smell like bleach?

Force of Nature has a slight smell like bleach when you first make the solution due to the fact that HOCL(the star of the show) is in the same class as chlorine, however, it is non-toxic.

Is Force of Nature worth the hype? I believe so, and I will tell you why. Force of Nature is a hospital-grade disinfectant that is also gentle enough to clean your home without fear of the toxic ingredients other products like bleach can produce. It is very simple to make and rather inexpensive at just 0.10 cents per ounce! It is actually the only EPA-approved disinfectant that is able to be made on a kitchen countertop. Pretty cool, right? Also, by using the Force of Nature activator capsules, which are fully recyclable, the usage of single-use plastic bottles is eliminated.

Does Force of Nature clean or disinfect? Both! Not only is it 99.9% effective at killing viruses, bacteria, mold, and mildew but it is also approved to kill respiratory and flu viruses including SARS and COVID-19. As far as generalized cleaning goes, Force of Nature is great at dissolving grease, grime, and anything sticky.

Force of Nature is also a very powerful odor eliminator. The problem with many cleaners, especially conventional cleaners, is that they do not actually eliminate the odor source. Force of Nature does just that.

Does Force of Nature clean mold?

Yes, it is intended to clean mold, however, if you have a noticeable mold issue I would highly recommend getting it remediated by a professional.

Easy to use!

What makes Force of Nature different?

Force of Nature is different because it’s completely non-toxic while also being a federal EPA-approved disinfectant. It contains NO fragrances, NO preservatives, NO dyes, NO surfactants, and NO quats which are quaternary ammonium compounds that are potent disinfectant compounds found in standard disinfecting wipes, sprays, and cleaning agents intended to kill germs.

It also only utilizes three ingredients: water, vinegar, and salt.

Force of Nature is also Green Seal Certified which means it meets the highest standards in protecting health, preserving the climate, and minimizing waste

What types of surfaces can it clean?

There really isn’t anything it can’t clean! Per the website, “Use it on counters (including sealed stone like granite, marble, quartz, wood, laminate), glass, appliances (including on stainless steel), and it’s even gentle enough to use on highchair trays & cutting boards. Great on glass & stainless steel, because Force of Nature has no drying accelerants like ammonia or alcohol-based cleaners, so make sure to wipe with a clean cloth or paper towel until the surface is completely dry.” It can also be used for all bathroom surfaces including grout, tile, sealed marble, porcelain, glass, and areas like doorknobs and faucets. And yes, you can use it on sealed stone due to the chemical process from the vinegar.

  • As a mom of 4 kids ages 6 and under, you can be sure I am using Force of Nature solution to clean all the things:
  • Pacifiers
  • baby gear
  • Refrigerators
  • Toys
  • Bathtubs
  • Shower

  • Cleaning Toothbrushes
  • Cleaning toilet bowl brushes
  • Any and all surface especially when they come home with a sickness!

Other Great Uses For Force of Nature

  • Cleaning trash cans
  • sticky messes
  • pet toys
  • Pet accidents
  • Cleaning cat litter boxes
  • Cleaning stinky shoes
  • Diaper pails
  • Sports Equipment and gym clothes
  • I also use it especially after I am prepping any meats, especially chicken.

How do you make it?

It’s actually very simple! It comes with instructions but here is the overview:

Yield: I spray bottle

Force of Nature Cleaner

Make 1 spray bottle of Force of Nature Disinfectant

Prep Time 5 minutes
Total Time 5 minutes

Instructions

  1. Ensure the rubber cover is covering the power cord on the back of the Electrolyzer appliance.
  2. Fill Water to the line on the back of the bottle
  3. Plug Unit into outlet
  4. Squeeze all the contents of the pre-measured capsules into the unit
  5. Press "start" button on front of unit
  6. Blue lights will begin flashing and then will transition to green after a few minutes
  7. Once the unit is fully green on bottom the mixture is complete
  8. Transfer concentrate to spray bottle
  9. Clean away!

The day counter lets you know how long your solution is good for. At day 14, the light will be red meaning the concentrate has expired and it is time to make a new batch.

Or, if you’re like me, you use it usually in the week, no need to worry!

    Halfway complete!

Ready to transfer to spray bottle when all green

    Why does it expire?

You will notice when you make the solution, bubbles or carbonation will appear. As carbonation begins to dissipate over time, so does hypochlorous acid. The effectiveness will dissipate as the hypochlorous acid dissipates.

Pros and Cons of Force of Nature

    PROSCONS
No added fragrancesCan’t buy at store
EPA-grade disinfectantHave to monitor when solution made
Cost effective at 0.10 cents per ounceCost-effective at 0.10 cents per ounce
    Easy to makeSlight bleach smell
    Cleans nearly everything
    Safe and non-toxic
    No harsh chemicals
    Cleans tough odors

In my own opinion, I don’t think it is necessary or healthy to use disinfectants every time a surface needs some basic wiping down as I think people, in general, tend to over-sanitize which can lead to other problems for our health. Our bodies were made to interact with germs, if we are constantly wiping them out our bodies run into trouble when we come into contact with minor germs, just my opinion as a nurse! Make sure to check out my blog post on 5 easy budget-friendly ways to begin a non-toxic life if you are new to this whole world!

I think Force of Nature is a great addition to a non-toxic household, especially if you are still using bleach! It’s awesome for items that need some extra sanitizing and cleaning and a great germ-killing substance for when the kids get hit with the dreaded stomach bug and mom, dad, or other siblings are trying to avoid it like the plague! I love that it is safe enough to use around my children without having to worry if they are breathing in toxic chemicals.

I hope you found this post valuable! If you try out Force of Nature, let me know your thoughts!
