A staggering report from the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) reports that our indoor air quality is 2-100 times more polluted than outdoor air quality with 60 percent of homes being hazardous to the occupants’ health. Shocking, right? Indoor air pollution is consistently ranked among the top 5 environmental hazards to the public. In this blog post, I will share my air doctor air purifier review and why you should invest in indoor air quality.

ToggleIndoor air pollution is so tricky mostly to the fact that it cannot be seen. Everything from VOCs (volatile organic chemicals) which include formaldehyde, benzene, ethylene glycol, and toluene to name a few, synthetic fragrances (hello candles and plug-ins) to the toxic cleaning supplies we use. If you want more on this info be sure to check out my post on 5 easy budget-friendly ways to begin a non-toxic lifestyle
Most people spend upwards of 90% of their lives indoors, especially those who work from home and stay-at-home moms. Most of us don’t realize that the items furnishing our homes often contain these toxic compounds: VOCs, adhesives from carpet, flooring, and rugs. Our homes can also pick up pollution from outside as well such as smoke, car exhaust, allergens etc.
We bring in contaminants that pollute our indoor air as well including our shoes (insert vomit emoji) have you read reports on what is found on the bottom of our shoes? Bacteria, heavy metals, gasoline, pesticides/herbicides, mold, dust mites, viruses and fungi. A study done by microbiologist Charles Gerba found that 96% of shoes contained E-coli. Yuck! The problem with this, is when we wear shoes inside our homes, these things get tracked in and end up polluting our air.
Mold is unfortunately a very common problem in most homes. Where there is water, dark areas, and fruitful places to grow, mold will find a home. It’s hard to find a home that hasn’t gone through some form of water damage and unfortunately, they are usually not properly remediated. A good majority of homes have carpet as well, which is a good place for mold and mycotoxins to hang out.
The air doctor is a professional-grade air purifier. You might see many options out there for air purifiers on the market, but Air Doctor is the perfect in-between. It is not so cheap that you actually wonder if it’s actually doing anything, and it does not cost a fortune or break the bank like a lot of professional quality air purifiers do. Air Doctor’s mission is as follows:
“The science of pure air is complex but our mission is simple: to inspire a thriving life for all through pure, healthy air technology, proven by science.
AirDoctor delivers the most approachable, affordable professional air purification technology on the market, so our customers can thrive in health, wellness, and life. We obsess over every detail and go the extra mile to test and earn third-party validation, so anyone can have peace of mind that the air they breathe is as pure as the science that goes into our solutions. “
Air Doctor believes everyone should have access to pure air and peace of mind. They believe in transparency, are committed to third-party validation, and prioritize affordable solutions without compromising on quality.
I bought my first set of Air Doctor air purifiers back in 2020. I bought two AirDoctor AD3000’s for our home and I am so thankful I did. The Air Doctor isn’t just any air purifier, because there are a lot of different air purifiers on the market. The Air Doctor is an Ultra HEPA purifier that captures 99.99% of airborne particles as small as 0.003 microns size-wise, 100 times smaller than standard HEPA devices. If you aren’t familiar, HEPA stands for “high efficiency particulate air”. This would include particles like mold, pet dander, bacteria, and viruses.
Dangerous volatile organic compounds, different types of airborne pollutants, odors, smoke, and fragrances from items such as personal care products are also eliminated by the Air Doctor using the carbon filter.
Just to break down how small of particles the Air Doctor will capture:
Smoke- 0.1-1 microns
Bacteria- 0.06-0.2 microns
Viruses- 0.06-0.1 microns
Pet Dander- 2.5-10 microns
Mold spores- 10 microns
100x smaller than the ordinary air purifiers on the market
A professional-grade air quality sensor is used to sense the quality of the air in the room and know whether it needs to correct the level of filtration in the room. You will notice three different colors on the sensor. Blue means your air quality is good, yellow means the air could use some help so the fan will start to kick up speed, and then red is air quality is poor so you will hear the fan begin to pick up at maximum speed.
Air Doctor uses a sealed system to ensure all the air that passes through the system is filtered. The filter frame creates an airtight seal with the purifier housing that forces air to pass through the filters ensuring all the air you breathe is filtered.
CADR stands for clean air delivery rate and reflects the volume of air in cubic feet per minute that is cleaned of particulate that shouldn’t be in the air you are breathing. It’s the measure that gives you good air quality. Obviously, the higher the CADR rating, the more effective the air purifier will be at removing contaminants. It is recommended to find an air purifier with a CADR rating at least two-thirds of the room’s area. So if a room area is 500 you would want a CADR reading purifier of 333.
Air Doctor now has 4 different sizes of Air Doctors on the Airdoctor website:
Air Doctor 1000-smallest but mighty perfect for small bedrooms, nurseries, home offices. CADR reading=152
Air Doctor 2000– great for small-medium-sized bedrooms. CADR reading=340
Air Doctor 3500– this is the unit I have for my home x2 this was the original and classic size great for bedrooms. Living rooms, kitchens. CADR reading=340
Air Doctor 5500– most powerful unit and most quiet. Great for extra large spaces, high ceilings and open concepts. CADR reading=534
When the Air Doctor senses something in the air that shouldn’t be there, aka Taylor burning breakfast! Beast mode turns on and you will notice the indicator light will either go from yellow to red depending on the severity. The fan speed will pick up and blow until the scent or smell is gone and the current air quality is better. So, yes, the Air Doctor does remove smells and invisible gases
That depends on your household needs. I think every room of the house could benefit from either an AD2000 or 3500 since those are the middle-of-the-range units. If your budget only allows for an AD1000 thats okay too!! My goal is to get an AD5500 for our main living floor since that is the biggest area, and then put the two AD3500s in the bedrooms.
Yes! We have had ours for 4 years now and I cannot imagine not having them in our home. It gives us so much peace of mind.
Well, we have had our 2 units for 4 years now with no problems. Air Doctor does give a one-year warranty. The Filters will last about a year: you buy them in year packs or separately. The HEPA usually lasts about 12 months and the carbon or VOC filter you will replace about every 6 months.
In my opinion, to get the best air for your home you should, we leave ours on 24/7.
When you first order a unit it will come with a year’s supply of replacement filters: The HEPA is changed about yearly and the carbon filters are changed about every 6 months. Again, your unit will notify you when and which filter is due. Depending on your home it will vary how long each lasts but mine have lasted about 6 months for carbon and 12 months for ultrahepa filter.
The filters are super easy to change out as well depending on which filter you need changed.
That’s it!
I honestly am so happy I purchased my two Air Doctor units back in 2020. It was back when the pandemic started so I had extra peace of mind knowing that it filters that out 99.97%. With all the indoor air pollutants that can be found in our home that are considered carcinogens like asbestos, lead, VOCs and mold I know that I have extra help protecting my family and have a peaceful home environment.
Every time I change my filters out and see what the carbon filter traps I am so grateful for my Air Doctor catching all that particulate instead of it going into our lungs. If you have respiratory health conditions, I would say an air purifier is a must.
The Air Doctor was not the first thing purchased when started a non-toxic journey, as I know they are an investment. There are definitely things you can do to help your air quality if an Air Doctor is not in your current budget:
Overall, I cannot recommend an Air Doctor highly enough, especially during these times now where a lot of people are working from home and spending more time indoors. The Air Doctor is definitely worth your money. I believe it is the best air purifier out there at an affordable price.
I hope this Air Doctor air purifier review was helpful!
