The first time I saw the Pranamat acupressure mat being used on Instagram(I know shocker) I was again very skeptical of such a tool. It looked terrible to lay on a bunch of plastic rose-looking pointy things to achieve pain relief and tranquility, but every influencer using it said how life-changing it was. I had to try it myself, so here is my Pranamat review. This therapeutic massage mat has so many benefits its one of my must-haves.

The Lotus pressure points are a game-changer!

I ordered the basic pranamat eco mat massage set, which includes the full mat and a pillow. It was very intimidating when I opened the package up and noticed that these plastic rose pieces were pretty darn sharp. I took advice on just starting and wore clothing my first few go-rounds using the mat and it felt really good on my back. Ever since my third child, I have dealt with low back pain that can be very intense so I am always looking for ways to support my body. Between chiropractor visits and trying to stretch as much as possible, the pranamat is a great addition to my wellness toolbox.

How does Pranamat work?

Pranamat uses acupressure, which according to the University of Michigan of Health Rogel Cancer Center,  is a form of ancient massage from Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is meant to encourage the movement of “life energy” or “qi” through the 14 channels of the body. In essence, it uses pressure points that traditional acupuncture targets to help move stagnant energy that could be causing inflammation and pain in the body.

You will notice the rose or lotus petals that are made for the acupressure points. They have a unique shape that deeply stimulates the skin without hurting it. I advise to start slow and wear clothing for the first go-rounds as it can be very intense at first. When you start to work up some time, you can go shirtless and lay on it bare skin. This time is so weird, it’s very intense at first and then you start to relax into it and it begins to feel very good and relaxing. It is recommended to try and last as long as possible to get the maximum benefits about 20-30 minutes per use.

What is Pranamat made of?

This Pranamat review couldn’t get any better in the fact that the Pranamat is sustainably made and made of  OEKO-TEX materials meaning that it is free from harmful substances and safe for intensive skin contact. No toxic glues are used to glue anything on the mat including the acupressure lotuses. Thermal pressing technology is used to secure the lotuses. No harmful dyes are used or toxic fillers.

As this is a product in which the skin is in extremely close contact I am very passionate that this product is high-quality standards. Natural cotton, natural linen, coconut fiber and HIPS plastic make this product. These are all very eco-friendly products as well. The Pranamat is 100% recyclable and green energy is used in its production. The coconut fiber filler is a by-product from the food industry, the box and user guide are made with recycled and biodegradable materials.

How does Pranamat work?

The lotus flower spikes include 10,000+ pointed spines that increase blood and lymph flow from the very first minute of use. Every area and cell of your body benefits from the skin and muscles receiving more oxygen.  Don’t worry, it’s really not like a bed of nails which it appears it is. The natural healing process begins with inflammation decreasing from improved oxygenation and metabolism.

Clinical results

According to the Pranamat website, they conducted clinical studies using their Pranamat which consisted of 60 people. The participants were of similar ages and body weight indices. They analyzed the blood flow, endorphins, cytokines, oxytocin as well as muscle condition before and after using Pranamat. Improved oxygenation of tissues was found along with pain relief, boosted metabolism, sleep regulation and boosts in energy.

How to use Pranamat

I recommend starting with the Pranamat basic massage set at a minimum. It comes with a full body mat and a head and neck pillow. If you want to get the whole body benefits all at one time, the Full Body original is a good way to go as it comes with the full-size mat, the head and neck pillow, and a pillow for your feet.

Classic back massage

Place Prana massage mat on surface such as bed, sofa or floor. Slowly lay down so all of back covers the mat and head neck and shoulders on the head mat. You can place a towel or if you have the Full body original set you can place the second mat underneath your back and on top of the full mat for added pressure to the curvature of your back. Try to relax for at least 15-40 minutes. I found that after the first few minutes of very intense pressure, it starts to feel extremely good!

Neck massage

You can place the mat on a chair or the floor and lay the pillow under the nape of your neck and enjoy for 20 minutes

Stomach massage

I have not tried this position yet, but Prana mat is great for the stomach area to relieve any cramps or bloating. It helps get additional blood flow to the skin helping keeping it toned. 5-15 minutes is all this takes

Palm and Foot massage

People rave about the foot massage and how it gives them an energy boost, especially in the mornings. Sit in a chair and gently press your feet into your Prana mat. I would recommend using socks for the first time or so. You can choose to just sit with your feet on the Prana mat or for an extra added energy boost, you can stand up on the prana mat. Whenever you need a mental re-set, use the mini mat and gently press your palm into the mat.

My personal Pranamat Review

Overall, my review of Pranamat is positive. It has helped me tremendously with my chronic lower back pain from 4 pregnancies. In the beginning, it was uncomfortable, but with time I kept feeling better after each use. Just like with anything, to start to see dramatic results, you have to use it consistently. I notice a big difference in sleep when I use it before bed, and my overall energy is up. It helps with muscle soreness after a long day of chasing kids. I try to make it a part of my nightly routine.

They offer a 30-day trial period for you to test it out, if you don’t reap the benefits you can get your full money back. Just 20 minutes per day is what they say is needed to see noticeable results.

I understand that the Pranamat is an investment, and might not be in your financial capability currently. There are cheaper versions of acupressure mats which I have not tried but are available. This one looked like a good budget-friendly option.

I hope you enjoyed my Pranamat Review, if you need more wellness recommendations, check out my Lumebox red light therapy review post.
