These days consumers are constantly bombarded with the newest and best ways to reduce the appearance of aging, especially when it comes to fine lines and forehead wrinkles. I love that there is a way to reduce these fine lines and wrinkles without having to use injectables as an option. Insert Frownies Facial patches. Let’s dive into the Frownies facial wrinkle patches review and how they can take aging skin off of your plate. I first found Frownies on social media, and it was a great find to come across!

ToggleFrownie facial wrinkle patches are in essence, a patch that forms a cast on your forehead for those pesky forehead lines or wherever you choose to apply them. They are the original wrinkle patch. Made with weighted, unbleached kraft paper and water-activated, starch-based adhesive, this adhesive forms a cast so that your facial muscles do not move during the time being worn and re-trains the muscles to “relax.” This is different from injectables, where a chemical is injected into the muscles that block nerves which causes the muscles to contract.
Interestingly enough, Frownies facial patches have been around since 1889! They have been around long before injectables were an option for wrinkles. They are a mother-daughter female-founded brand and are now on their fifth generation of women trying to educate other women that there are better options than injectables for their skin!
Since injectables were not around back in 1889, Frownies facial patches were Hollywood’s best-kept secret to facial expression lines. I think that is super cool! I also love that the current president, Kat Wright, is a naturopath, yoga teacher, and wellness educator.
As always, everyone is going to have their own opinions on this matter but I will share mine with you. First off, they are expensive! I found that the average price of injectables per unit is around $9 per unit. You may think that isn’t bad! However, most people need between 10-30 for the forehead. That is anywhere from $90-270 per session!
Second, it only lasts anywhere between 3-4 months, so that’s roughly $90 per month you are spending. A box of Frownies costs $24.95 and a box lasts me a little over one month. That is a huge price difference.
Next, as a holistic-minded nurse, I am not a fan of using injectables for cosmetic reasons. A known ingredient in these injectables is a neurotoxin. An article from NCBI states:
“The active neurotoxin is botulinum toxin type A. This neurotoxin comprises 85 percent of the worldwide Botox® market, and most scientific articles on botulinum toxins are about Botox®.”
I don’t know about you, but I am not a fan of injecting known neurotoxins into my body, especially for cosmetic reasons.
Lastly, my opinion is that once we start with injectables on one area of our body, we soon become not content with other areas of our bodies and know that with any injectable we can “change our bodies” I feel like it is a slippery slope that can lead women into not believing they are beautiful or worthy unless they constantly get injectables or even plastic surgery.
Frownies Facial Wrinkle Patches use unbleached kraft paper for their patches, and per their website, they state:
“Frownies formulations are based on natural ingredients derived from sustainable, renewable sources, but may include select functional synthetic ingredients where warranted to achieve enhanced performance and safety in Clean Beauty formulations. No Latex or silicone in any products.”
They also claim that they are non-comedogenic and safe for sensitive skin. They are also third-party dermatologist tested.
I have to admit, when I first heard of Frownies, I was a little skeptical. I had to give them a try though since I only heard great things. After wearing them daily for 30 days, and I was very impressed with my results. I have some deeper forehead wrinkles than I like, and those drastically improved.
My forehead skin also felt so much smoother after each application. I was also impressed with how little time and effort it took to apply them each night because I am a minimalist when it comes to skincare, especially at night when I am exhausted. I wore them overnight as they recommend you wear them for several hours. The process to remove them in the morning was also better than I expected. They recommend you wet the area with some water to peel off when you remove the dried patches, but I got to the point where I was just able to remove it without water.
Frownies has an actual whole line of skin care to go along with their facial patches. They include:
Note: Perform all skincare as you would, if you apply a moisturizer, be sure to let it sit in for at least 5 minutes before applying patches.
What I do is perform my skincare, apply my moisturizer, brush and floss my teeth finish getting ready, and then apply Frownies.
Apply a lot of warm water thoroughly over patches to remove adhesive. This should be easy to do and come off easily without pulling the skin.
For best results patches must be left on at a minimum of 3-4 hours, overnight is recommended for maximum results. Depending on how deep the wrinkles are, it may take up to 4 weeks of consistent daily use to see lasting and noticeable differences.
In my opinion, nothing. Frownies are the best way to stay on top of wrinkles over any other intervention. I got great results in a single night. Injectables just freeze the muscle for a short amount of time, not helping to prevent them. I also love that my facial expressions are still existent as they are not existent after getting injectables. Obviously, skin care starts from within, so eating a healthy, skin supporting diet is also key. High in phytonutrients, fruits, vegetables and making sure hydration is proper. Hydration also plays a huge part in wrinkles, as wrinkles form in dehydrated skin.
There are no actual “active ingredients” in Frownies patches as the results a person gets from using Frownies is a muscular response to the patches; in essence, Frownies create a splint for your forehead muscles so they can’t move. In essence, Frownies re-train the muscle to lie in a smooth, flat position.
Yes! Frownies are non-comedogenic meaning they won’t clog your pores. The adhesives still allow skin to breathe. They also work for people with sensitive skin like mine.
How many times a week should I use Frownies?
It is recommended to use them every day for the first 30 days. If you see the results you want at that time, you can then go into “maintenance” mode where you use Frownies three to four days a week to maintain proper facial posture. Fine lines can be smoothed in less than 30 nights and often only need 3-4 nights every week to maintain wrinkle-free skin.
I have begun my “maintenance mode” and currently use Frownies three times weekly.
Just like with anything in life such as exercise or learning, if you stop using the muscles to train, they will eventually get weak and you will lose your results. The same goes with Frownies, the muscles will begin to form wrinkles from usage. Just as injectables are not a permanent fix, Frownies are not either unless you keep up with your routines. I find using my Frownies as a normal part of my skincare routine.
I recommend:
– the Forehead and between the eyes facial patches(these are the patches for full forehead)
– Rose water toner for application
I would say the only downside to using Frownies would be they might take a little bit to get used to wearing. After a few times of wearing them though, I got used to it. They did not bother me at all while I was sleeping which was great. Sometimes I don’t even notice I still have them on in the mornings until my children remind me to take them off before school drop off!
Will I damage my skin from wearing them too often?
As with any product or skin care regimen, you have to test products out for yourself. Frownies states that there should not be any potential issues with skin damage from overwearing, but every person is bio bio-individualized so each person’s skin may react differently. I have not seen anything but positive benefits with using Frownies 3-4 times weekly overnight.
Here are some customer testimonials from the Frownies Website:
“I have been using Frownies wrinkle patches consistently for a month and have noticed a huge difference in my forehead wrinkles and frown line. The wrinkles are no longer deep set and more fine lines now. You need these!”
“I have been using Frownies for my smile lines for about a month and the results are incredible. I will definitely keep purchasing and using these every night and I would recommend them to everyone!”
“These are great! I bought the little ones for the lips but use them between my eyebrows and on my crow’s feet! I’m definitely going to continue to get these! They’re reusable too for a few days which helps make them more cost-effective.”
After 30 consecutive days of using Frownies in my skincare routine, my overall results were great. My deep forehead lines are diminishing and I have the appearance of smoother-looking skin. There are no active skincare ingredients I have to be concerned about and the purchase price cannot be beat. Consistent use is key just like with any skin care product. I also found that using the Frownies rose water hydrator spray made the application easier. That first patch application will always be a little tricky, but the most effective application technique is to just keep doing it! Continuous use of Frownies wrinkle patches will get you amazing results.
I will absolutely continue to use Frownies as I noticed my whole confidence has gotten a boost using them consistently. They are one of the best skincare products I have come across in my non-toxic living journey. I think the best message for all of us is that we are all beautiful and we can choose to age gracefully without injecting toxins into our bodies.
